The paradox of choice

This is a lengthy video (about 20 minutes) but well worth it. It's a TED talk by this professor at Swarthmore. He talks about the "Paradox of choice"; mainly that our generation has too many choices and it's actually making us unhappy. Generally, I'm sold by this idea. We always leave ourselves open to the "grass is greener" problem with even the most trivial choices in our life. In the speech he talks about salad dressing. I would have never thought about that, but yeah, we have way too many choices. I don't like shopping much and I think it's because I'm honestly overwhelmed by all the damn choices there are. I like plain clothes, I like old navy. I don't want to spend hours of my time and all of my money on clothes, I want something that looks good, fits well and end of story. I can't even imagine how we deal with all these choices! I don't know if I can help this in my own life, but perhaps I'll try to limit my own choices on the daily to make my own life simpler.

Perhaps I do this naturally sometimes.. When I went to Australia I could only bring two bags, and taking away those choices really did make my life easier. I had only a few pairs of pants, a few pairs of shoes, shirts and one sweatshirt. I'm really into perfumes and I only brought one bottle with me- simplicity. When I went back to college in the winter I tried really hard to only bring what I needed, and that was nice. I'm going to try to do more of this, especially now that I feel like there's actually a reason to. Sorry for my rambling..
