I'm taking a class this semester called the Human and Computer Interaction (aka: HCI). Almost every class I just sit there and feel like the Professor sat down and wrote the class specifically for me. I love the topics we cover, I love listening to people talk about how to improve interfaces and how to make computers more user friendly. When I explain the class to people I tell them that it's a topic in computing that combines psychology and technology, and continue by explaining the importance. I truly think that HCI is something I could go into for a career; I strongly believe that HCI is the hottest topic in technology these days. For the most part the technology has already been developed, now it's time to make it more usable for the masses. Honestly, the companies that are doing a better job at their HCI are doing the best, like the whole apple line. Apple's motto is to make things as simple, sleek, and elegant as possible and people love it!
I came across this blog article today with the money quote "Yes, Linux does some things better than Mac OS X and Microsoft's Windows Vista on the desktop (security, maybe), but let's be honest: the Linux desktop is "utter crap" compared to either OS X or Windows when it comes to the thing that matters most: usability. If normal people can't use it, it just doesn't matter how beautifully architected it is...". Gosh that is so true! I LOVE THIS STUFF.
